Rain, Rain - Go Away! - October 7

We decided to stick with our plan to walk about in Florence today even though we encountered a drizzle, a light shower and a downpour!  Our first stop was on our own street to see a 15th century painting of The Last Supper at the former Fulingno convent.  Then we toured a small museum of the Misericordia (Italian for mercy), an all-volunteer organization that has been taking care of the sick and dying for 700 years.  The early members would wear robes and hoods to keep their identity hidden as they wanted to do this charity work without taking credit or being recognized for it.  Over 2000 volunteers continue to offer free help to those in need through various services.  Next we walked through Dante's neighborhood and then on to Santa Croce church to visit the leather school there.  The rain was pretty heavy as we crossed over Ponte Vecchio to the other side of the Arno where we saw the huge Pitti Palace and finally sat down in a nice restaurant to dry out and have a good lunch.  We all had a nice nap when we got back home!  More later . . .
