The morning was free for our own pursuits or for just lounging around and then we were off on our first train trip together in the afternoon. We arrived in the serene and beautiful walled city of Lucca on a day with perfect weather. Strolling through the city we saw the sights including the home of Puccini, the renown opera composer(Madame Butterfly, La Boheme, etc.) and the small piazza named for him. He was there sitting in his bronze chair waiting to welcome us to his hometown. The walls have a nice walking path for the two and a half miles around the entire old town. We enjoyed dinner before we caught the train back to Florence. A lovely day in lovely Lucca. More later . . .
