Another Day in Florence - September 25

We took in more of Florence today as we wandered through Dante's late 13th century neighborhood behind the Duomo.  We even encountered a delightful Dante mime who was quoting from the Divine Comedy. Then we were at Santa Croce church to visit the leather school there and be amazed at the prices of the coats, purses and other leather goods for sale. Passing over the river to what is known as Oltrarno (other side of the Arno) we took a quick look at the sprawling Pitti Palace and Santo Sprito church before we sat down to a great lunch at  Trattoria CasaLinga.  Another "bella" day in Tuscany!  More later . . .

Florence Walking - September 24

After yesterday's full day of sightseeing in the Cinque Terre our group was a bit reduced for the walking about in Florence.  Six of us visited the Fulingo Cenacola - a 14th century painting of the Last Supper on the wall of a former convent right here on our street.  Then we saw the elegant Santa Maria Novella Perfumery that has been in business since the 1600's.  Next it was a tour of Palazzo Davanzati, a furnished home from the 1300's that was quite different from our Medici palace tour.  The world competition bicycle event is still going on here in the city so we were often detoured around the fenced off streets that are now the racing course.  You never know what you will encounter in Florence!  More later . . .
